Photographing People Outdoors

When photographing people outdoors, the sun is definitely not your friend! Bright sunlight is the most difficult light to handle. In the image below, I snapped a cricketer - but there was no shade so the shadow from his cap has made his eyes all but invisible.

My excuse is that he asked me to take his picture just before he took the field, so we didn't have time to move to a shady area and my camera's built-in flash was too weak to light up his eyes.

However, when taking a group shot of the whole team, I put on my "I'm in charge" voice and made sure they were in the only shady area on the ground - under some trees; out of the harsh sunlight, we can see the faces clearly and get a better image.
