Image Author and Title

Our competitions use a software package that can automatically score our competitions. This package requires the author name of images to be set and we've found that judges (and other members) prefer images to have titles. You can set the author/title information using your image manipulation package (for example, Photoshop or Lightroom) or you can use Windows; setting author name and title is straightforward with Windows 7 and later, although Microsoft have changed the appearance of Windows through the versions:

Windows 7

Open Explorer on Windows (the quickest way is to hold down the Windows key and, at the same time, the E key); Explorer will open and you can navigate to where your pictures are saved:

In the above example, I've selected an image; at the bottom of the window you can see an area containing information about the image - including the Author and Title. Click in those fields and you can set the author and title - a Save button will appear once you start editing, click that when you've completed your editing.

You can select multiple images and set the author field for all of them in one go.

Windows 8

Open Explorer on Windows (the quickest way is to hold down the Windows key and, at the same time, the E key) and navigate to where your pictures are stored:

In the above example, I've selected the image; on the right hand side you can see the Details Pane - you can see the Authors and Title fields have been set - I clicked the appropriate field and typed the information. You can set the Authors field for several images at the same time. When you start editing the author or title, a Save button will appear which you click once you've entered the author and title information.

If you don't see the Details Pane, click the View tab and you should see an option to show/hide the Details.

Windows 10

Open Explorer on Windows (the quickest way is to hold down the Windows key and, at the same time, the E key) and navigate to where your pictures are stored:

In the above example, I've selected the image; on the right hand side you can see the Details Pane - the Authors and Title fields have yet to be set - to do that, I'll click the appropriate field and typed the information. You can set the Authors field for several images at the same time. When you start editing the author or title, a Save button will appear which you click once you've entered the author and title information.

If you don't see the Details Pane, click the View tab and you should see an option to show/hide the Details pane.
